Urgent Safety Concern – Unsafe Traffic Management at 228 New Road, Near Tesco Express

Issue

I am writing to raise an urgent safety concern regarding the Thames Water works at 228 New Road, near Tesco Express.

Approximately four days ago, Thames Water excavated the road following a reported water leak and installed closure signage. Since then, no further work appears to have taken place and the site has been left unattended.

The current situation presents a serious risk to public safety. There is no effective traffic management or temporary signal control in place, resulting in vehicles diverting around the shopping parade and petrol station. This is causing congestion and increasing the risk of collisions with pedestrians and other road users.

Safety Risks

More concerning, traffic cones have been removed from part of the closure, allowing vehicles to enter a partially restricted excavation area. This creates a significant hazard for pedestrians using the nearby crossing and for members of the public accessing local shops. The site is currently unsafe and inadequately secured.

This situation increases the risk of:

* Vehicle and pedestrian conflict near the crossing * Accidents due to unclear or missing traffic control measures * Unsafe access to the shopping parade and surrounding area

Required Actions

I request that Thames Water and Buckinghamshire Council take immediate action to:

* Resume and complete the repair works without delay * Reinstate safe and compliant traffic management, including temporary traffic signals where required * Fully secure the excavation and prevent any vehicle access to the closed area * Review and improve pedestrian safety arrangements around the crossing and shopping parade * Confirm compliance with all relevant road works permit conditions and safety standards
