Blocked Drains Causing Flooding at Properties on Frieth Road (number 24 and 26)

I am writing as a follow-up to my previous report (9550893) regarding the blocked drains on Frieth Road. The council recently attended and cleared the drains outside number 30 Frieth Road and the next one further up the road (near number 32). While the visible mud and debris were sucked up from the drains, this has not resolved the underlying problem. The drains remain blocked- water is still sitting approximately 30cm from the top of the drain covers. Even after 10 days, the water level had not gone down. As a result, we have experienced further flooding during heavy rain. Water continues to bypass the drains, flowing down the road onto my driveway and my neighbour’s, causing flooding at the front of the house, in the garage and leaving behind significant mud, debris, and mess. I have attached several photos showing the current state of the drains (full of standing water) and the recent flooding. The recent intervention by the drain clearing truck only removed surface debris and did not address the blockage further down the system. I would therefore be grateful if you could arrange for a proper and thorough unblocking of the drains outside numbers 30 and 32, including investigating and fixing the root cause of the blockage at the bottom of the system. This is now a recurring issue that was first reported over a year ago, and it continues to cause ongoing disruption and damage to our properties. This has been passed to the Highway Officer to investigate.
We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. Even when a gully is clean and well maintained it will only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area.
The Highway Officer is only able to inspect the drain when the water has cleared away, this will be done within 10 days and if required, an order will be raised to clear the drain.

An order has been raised to repair the issue reported, this will be a permanent repair to be carried out as soon as possible. However, there are occasions when a temporary repair is carried out for safety reasons until such time as we can mobilise resources to make the repair permanent.
To ensure the highway network remains as safe as possible we will continue to carry out our regular Highways Safety Inspections which will include this issue until such times as the permanent repair is made
