Deanway and High Street

Reported via desktop in the Unauthorised signs category anonymously at 17:08, Thursday 18 June 2026

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council 6 days, 23 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 9645754.

Flags have been illegally installed on the majority of lamp posts along Deanway and the Chalfont St Giles High Street. These flags are presenting an issue obscuring the light from the street lamps at night, making visibility difficult when driving. Please can you arrange to have them removed, or alternatively can they be attached to dedicated flag poles and maintained by the council? The cable ties they are attached with are not secure and they are not maintained by the anonymous fly posters. Thank you.

  • The Highway Officer will attend the site plotted on the map and make arrangements for the unauthorised sign to be removed.

As part of our highway management strategy, unauthorised signs will be removed from the highway, removal will be prioritised according to highway safety, resource requirements and the interests of the community. The Council may exercise their discretion not to enforce in some situations (e.g., small scale charity events).

These signs will be held for 28 days and there will be a storage fee of the unauthorised signs that do not comply with this policy where applicable.

  • Thank you for your recent communication regarding flags in Buckinghamshire.
The Local Area Technician (LAT) regularly attends the area to inspect the road network and also in response to reports received via FixMyStreet and will raise orders to keep the condition of the highway safe in line with our Highways Safety inspection policy.
We are closely monitoring the situation regarding flags and any such additions that are not approved will be assessed for removal, with our priority being to deal with any that might cause a public safety issue, such as a dangerous obstruction or highway visibility being removed as soon as possible. We have no current plans to remove anything not causing a danger or obstruction from the highway network at this time however we continue to monitor the situation regarding flags raised across the county.
