Blocked Drains Causing Flooding at Properties on Frieth Road (number 24 and 26.)

Recurring drainage issue on Frieth Road (number 24 and 26) that continues to cause significant flooding to my property and my neighbour’s during periods of heavy rain. This problem was first reported to the council last year. At that time, I received a response stating that the drains are cleaned on a cyclical basis. Unfortunately, this has not resolved the issue. The drain directly outside number 30 Frieth Road, along with the next drain further up the road, remains completely blocked with mud and soil. As a result, during heavy rainfall, water bypasses these drains entirely and flows down the road onto both my driveway and my neighbour’s driveway. This causes flooding in my garage, outside my front door, and across the front of the house. The water also carries large amounts of mud and soil, creating a significant mess. I have attached a photo showing the extent of the water flow and flooding during a recent heavy rain event. Given that this is an ongoing issue that was reported over a year ago, I would be grateful if you could arrange for these drains to be inspected and cleared as a matter of urgency to prevent further flooding and damage to our properties. This has been passed to the Highway Officer to investigate.
We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. Even when a gully is clean and well maintained it will only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area.
The Highway Officer is only able to inspect the drain when the water has cleared away, this will be done within 10 days and if required, an order will be raised to clear the drain.

An order has been raised to repair the issue reported, this will be a permanent repair to be carried out as soon as possible. However, there are occasions when a temporary repair is carried out for safety reasons until such time as we can mobilise resources to make the repair permanent.
To ensure the highway network remains as safe as possible we will continue to carry out our regular Highways Safety Inspections which will include this issue until such times as the permanent repair is made
