No action taken - damaged grass verges

Reported via iOS in the Grass cutting category anonymously at 07:04, Tuesday 19 May 2026

Sent to Iver Parish Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9473590.

No action has been taken from 3 previous reports - 8989939, 8804460, 9370694

You quoted the below Highways Act, has any of this been done? The grass verges, now non existent, damaged from same cars parking consistently. Please can we have some consideration to look after local communities. It seems grass areas are either parked on or fly tipped. What action can be taken please? If these are to remain “grass” verges they need to be cared for, if not, suitable alternatives need to be considered please to keep maintenance to a minimum. Parking restrictions to support local residents for example, restrictions on corners etc…

Under Section 131 of the Highways Act 1980 it is an offence to cause damage to the Public Highway. If the owner of the vehicle can be identified we will write to them and request that they stop parking the vehicle on the Public Highway and, make good the verge with top soil and seed so as to remove the cause or likelihood of danger.

Updates

  • Reported 4 times, no action taken. Very frustrating. They are responsible for maintaining grass verges, which are now non existent and therefore saves them time because there is no upkeep. Just ugly areas, which turn into unsightly mud verges in the winter, no one cares. Either maintain as per the quoted Highways Act, take preventative measures by providing parking enforcement, create parking restrictions or don’t fine local residents for trying to maintain them because they actually care about where they live. Terrible state of affairs, no one is accountable in anyway.
