Manhole in southbound carriageway breaking up
Reported via desktop in the Manhole cover broken/missing category anonymously at 18:23, Wednesday 18 February 2026
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8950074.
The manhole is in the road next to the steps that lead to the station forecourt. The road surrounding this manhole is breaking up again. Some vehicles are swerving to avoid it. I walk past this every day. It was repaired perhaps only 3 years ago, not for the first time. The cover has never fitted the manhole properly, it 'bangs' very loudly as vehicles cross it. I believe the resulting vibrations are the reason the road surface keeps breaking up.
Updates
-
Almost all manhole covers have some form of identification on them, and it is likely that the manhole cover is owned by a utility company, who are legally responsible for maintaining it.
This report has been passed to the Highway Officer, who will carry out an inspection within the next 10 working days and if it is found to be the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Highways we will take the appropriate action. If, however, it is found to be the responsibility of the utility company we will report the issue to them, but please note we have no control regarding how long it will take to be fixed by the utility company.

(Update
Buckinghamshire Highways Inspectors carry out monthly Highways Safety Inspection Policy on all A and B roads across the County, they will identify any safety defects and arrange to have the appropriate action taken.
A Roads are classed as major roads that link regional towns and cities. They are also sometimes referred to as 'trunk' roads, these can be either single or dual-carriageways and are found in both rural and urban areas.
B Road have lower traffic densities than the main trunk roads, or A roads. This classification has nothing to do with the width or quality of the physical road, and B roads can range from dual carriageways to single track roads with passing places.
