This was first raised in August 2025, the council have not as yet got round to inspecting, when will they? I have raised challenges, mailed direct, called in at the local depot but to date all I know is it will be inspected when they get round to it. In my opinion this is urgent. Customer has called as he has advised that he reported this tree back in August and that he has been advised that the tree will be assessed as part of the county wide tree survey that is under way. He has advised that it was a tree surgeon that he was advised by to get this tree checked as they thought it needed removing as there is a large fungus on it and seems to be in a very bad state. He has advised that he has been in contact with Jessica (LAT) who has advised that the tree would be inspect on the survey but that they would also try and get this inspected sooner, but nothing ahs yet been arranged. He has advised that it has very recently made a loud creaking sound and 3 inch diameter branch fell off and across the road, which they managed to drag off the road, but this is just another sign the tree needs an urgent assessment by a professional to say if it is safe or not. Please can this be looked into urgently and an update be provided./

A Highway Officer will carry out an initial assessment of the tree, emergency issues will be corrected or made safe at the time of the inspection, if reasonably practicable to do so. In this context, making safe may constitute displaying warning notices, coning‐off or fencing‐off to protect the public from the tree or other suitable action.
If the inspection team cannot make safe the defect at the time of inspection, then they will instigate the relevant emergency call procedures to ensure appropriate resources are mobilised to make the tree safe. Highway Officers are not qualified as tree experts and in some cases they may need to arrange for a tree surgeon to visit the site and carry out a survey on the tree which can take up to 12 weeks.
There may also be occasions when the issue reported will be classified as a minor defect and does not pose any risk to either the safety or the integrity of the highway, these are called minimum recording levels as specified in our Highways Safety Inspection Policy , in these cases no action will be taken.
