Constant flooding on the road due to the blocked drain.

The water is full up to the road in the drain so any new rain fall means the road is flooded and the houses are being splashed. My front door is being hit by water when cars are passing. There is water in the threshold of the front door, I worry this could cause damage to my property.
Pedestrians are having to run past so they don’t get soaked by passing cars.

If the flooding is caused by a water leak we will report it to the relevant water company, who are responsible for water leaks.
There are occasions when flash flooding overloads the drain/gully, even when a drain/gully is clean and well maintained it can only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area, this generally clears away over a matter of hours.
The Highway Officer is only able to inspect the drain when the water has cleared away, this will be done within 10 days and if required, an order will be raised to clear the drain.

Our priority during flash flooding is to protect the public who are using the highway, we will only respond to requests to provide sandbags in extreme emergencies to specific locations, please note we have no statutory duty to provide them.
You can buy sandbags from most DIY stores; however, you should be aware.
• They are heavy and can therefore be difficult to handle.
• They retain sewage when they come into contact with floodwater.
• The bag material used is biodegradable and will disintegrate if left in contact with water for long periods of time.
• It is your responsibility to ensure they are removed when no longer needed.The National Flood Forum recommends you use flood resistant products to help prevent water from entering the property.
