Urgent Request for Drainage Investigation – Stevenson Road, Farnham Common

Reported via mobile in the Flooding on a road/footpath category by Councillor David Moore at 15:11, Sun 23 November 2025

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8454409.

I am writing to request an urgent investigation into the drainage at the junction of Stevenson Road and the A355 in Farnham Common, where persistent surface water has been reported. The recent cold spell caused the water to freeze, creating a potentially hazardous situation for drivers entering and exiting the road.

A resident (see photos) has undertaken initial exploratory checks and identified:

• A manhole chamber on the grass verge that is taking water, • A 4-inch outflow pipe running downhill into the woodland, • A likely blockage approximately 7 metres along the outflow pipe (confirmed by manual rodding).

Given the risk of icing, loss of control, and further deterioration in winter conditions, could the drainage team please:

1. Attend the site to investigate and confirm the cause of the obstruction 2. Clear any blockage within the outflow pipe where required 3. Review whether further upstream or downstream maintenance is necessary to improve long-term drainage resilience

This is a long-standing issue, and any assistance in resolving it would be greatly appreciated by residents.

Thank you very much for your continued support. I look forward to your update.

Kind regards,

David

Councillor David Moore Buckinghamshire Councillor for the Farnhams & Stoke Poges Ward

Updates

  • If the flooding is caused by a water leak we will report it to the relevant water company, who are responsible for water leaks.

There are occasions when flash flooding overloads the drain/gully, even when a drain/gully is clean and well maintained it can only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area, this generally clears away over a matter of hours.

The Highway Officer is only able to inspect the drain when the water has cleared away, this will be done within 10 days and if required, an order will be raised to clear the drain.
