Damaged fibre access chamber – 7 Great Horwood Road, Winslow MK18 3LY

Reported via desktop in the Manhole cover broken/missing category by Tom Winterton at 09:26, Sun 23 November 2025

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8453072.

CityFibre recently carried out broadband installation works outside my property as part of the rural rollout (approx. 4–6 weeks ago). A small access chamber (“toby box”) was installed directly on the edge of the roadside bank at 7 Great Horwood Road, Winslow, Buckinghamshire, MK18 3LY.

Because of the placement, the chamber was immediately struck by vehicles and is now destroyed. This has caused the bank to erode, leaving a hole where water is pooling and flowing down the road instead of into the ditch. The verge is collapsing, and the carriageway edge is breaking away.

My requests: Replace or relocate the damaged CityFibre access chamber to a safe position. Repair the eroded carriageway edge caused by the reinstatement defect.

I am very supportive of the fibre rollout and want to ensure my future connection is not affected, but the current condition is unsafe and deteriorating.

Updates

  • Almost all manhole covers have some form of identification on them, and it is likely that the manhole cover is owned by a utility company, who are legally responsible for maintaining it.

This report has been passed to the Highway Officer, who will carry out an inspection within the next 10 working days and if it is found to be the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Highways we will take the appropriate action. If, however, it is found to be the responsibility of the utility company we will report the issue to them, but please note we have no control regarding how long it will take to be fixed by the utility company.
