42 West Street, Steeple Claydon, MK18 2NS

Reported via desktop in the Flooding on a road/footpath category anonymously at 17:15, Friday 14 November 2025

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8420542.

Drain just outside 42 West Street is no longer taking in water, the road is flooding and the water is quickly rising, getting dangerously close to my walls and more importantly my front door. It has been raining all day but it has built up very quickly all of a sudden over the last hour

Updates

  • If the flooding is caused by a water leak we will report it to the relevant water company, who are responsible for water leaks.

There are occasions when flash flooding overloads the drain/gully, even when a drain/gully is clean and well maintained it can only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area, this generally clears away over a matter of hours.

The Highway Officer is only able to inspect the drain when the water has cleared away, this will be done within 10 days and if required, an order will be raised to clear the drain.

  • Update

The Highway Officer has carried out an inspection and has identified that there is no immediate safety issue, even when a gully is clean and well maintained it will only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area, this generally clears away over a matter of hours.

It is not financially viable for us to action all non-safety issues in isolation, these non-safety issues are added to a package of works for the area. In addition, all our roads are subject to Highways Safety Inspection Policy, and this includes identifying drainage issues, we also have a gully clearance programme where we inspect and clear all 85,000 Buckinghamshire owned gully’s annually.

If your property is in danger of flooding please refer to the Buckinghamshire web page on flooding, for information and guidance.
