Haw Lane, Saunderton between the A4010 and the entrance to Hearing Dogs
Reported via iOS in the Blocked drain category anonymously at 19:53, Sunday 9 November 2025
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8395866.
There are 2 gullies approximately 4 metres apart, both on the left hand side after turning left into Haw Lane. Both gullies are blocked with sediment and do not drain effectively. This is far from being a new problem. A photograph show that one of the gullies was rebuilt [lifted] 2 days ago on Friday 7th November. It was previously sunken and hazardous. Less than 24 hours later a second photograph shows the puddle that has formed directly over the brand new gulley, after some overnight rain. The other gulley is seen in the photographs to be flooded “all the time”. This other gully does not appear to be plotted on the Public Flood Asset Register. Can you advise whether this is supposed to be a functioning drain and should be plotted on the Asset Register? When making this report, FixMyStreet identified this gully and advised that “this gully was last cleaned on 12 Dec 2024”. I hope the photographs can be taken at face value; by the time the site is inspected then there is every chance that the puddles will finally have managed to drain, or the water will have evaporated. Have the contractors who rebuilt the gully on Friday 7th November, reported about this pair of blocked drains that are in need of cleaning? This location is exceptionally hazardous on a long term basis, as a result of the number & type of vehicles using it to access the nearby data centre site for the purposes of construction. It is essential that motorists at this particular location are never presented with "puddles" that might conceal - and until Friday 7th November did conceal - a deep "pothole". After turning left into Haw Lane they are immediately on the approach to a width-restricted bridge, a blind bend, and the entrance to Hearing Dogs. Thank you.
Updates
-
This has been passed to the Highway Officer to investigate.
We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. Even when a gully is clean and well maintained it will only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area.
The Highway Officer is only able to inspect the drain when the water has cleared away, this will be done within 10 days and if required, an order will be raised to clear the drain.
