Noise from your vehicle

Dear Buckinghamshire Council

I would like to raise a complaint about the noise caused by your street sweeper driving past my home at HP13 5HT before 8 am on a Sunday morning. This happened and is continuing to happen on 12th of October. The sweeper has been past my house twice now.

Sunday is a day of rest and it is not normal for plant or power tools to be used before 10 am on a Sunday so that for at least one day of the week there is a quiet time in the morning.

This is especially important if like me and my family we have important and busy jobs during the week and it is our only opportunity to have a decent restful day.

This is a recurring problem with street sweepers who have regularly travelled along the street before 7 am during the week.

I would like to see this practice of early mornings road sweeping stopped please. The normal response from council staff in the past to my complaints about this behaviour has been that the roads need to be swept at a quiet time. I can assure you that the road is never so busy during the day apart from during rush-hour when it is impossible to sweep roads effectively. There is a single yellow line along the road and double yellow lines on the other side, which means that the road in general is kept free whereas in early morning periods the roads have parked cars during permitted parking hours.

Please address this and remind your staff, preferably with something in writing so that they remember that this is not a practice that should be taking place as it is inconsiderate of the public.

I can assure you if you have not experienced it that the loud noise of a road sweeper outside your house early in the morning is at best annoying and at worst not conducive to the peace and quiet that we expect and deserve for at least some period of the week in support of our mental health.
