At the intersection between Green Hill and Hugenden Road, there is nowhere to safely cross to access the opposite side of the road and Hugenden Park

Reported via mobile in the Road lines / road markings category anonymously at 23:17, Mon 15 September 2025

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8170136.

I live in Green Hill and every day walk to Hugenden Park, with my baby in the pram. Because there are no zebra crossings anywhere near the intersection between Green Hill and Hugenden Road, I have to always cross unsafely with cars that drive very fast, in a point where 4 roads intersect. I always have to wait for long time before I am able to cross, while breathing all the traffic smoke with a newborn with me. I think it’s a disgrace there is no zebra crossing to allow people to cross, and I have seen other parents and elderly having to unsafely cross while cars drive past at ridiculous speed. I would like to request a zebra crossing is created so that people can safely cross.

Updates

  • This has been passed to the Highway Officer to investigate, they will carry out an inspection within the next 10 working days.

All our roads are subject to safety inspections, and this includes identifying any markings that are badly damaged or degraded so we may already be aware of this issue and have raised a job to have them refreshed if this is the case we will update you that it is a duplicate job/enquiry.

If we were not aware of this issue, we will update you on what action will be taken, this may include adding the road markings to a package of works to be carried out at a later date.

Please note, the ambient temperature drops, and the air becomes much more humid during the winter months and materials won’t bond with the surface when it’s wet, defeating the purpose of applying them at all. Adding markings to a wet surface will essentially mean they become diluted. The moisture present on the road and also in the air will affect the finished quality of the markings, impacting their appearance and longevity, for this reason we only refresh road markings during winter months if there is a specific safety issue.

There may also be occasions when the issue reported will not be repaired as it has been classified as a minor defect and does not pose any risk to either the safety or the integrity of the highway, these are called minimum recording levels as specified in our Highways Safety Inspection Policy in these cases no action will be taken.

  • Thank you for your request for a pedestrian crossing/Installation of a Footway/Footpath

Unfortunately, there are no measures planned at this location currently. Buckinghamshire Council's Transport priority and that of Buckinghamshire's residents is for significant investment to be put into road maintenance, due to the significant budget required to keep the current network suitable for all users. Therefore, there is limited funding available for other new schemes at this time. A crossing/Footway/footpath at this location would not be a current funding priority.

We will however put the request highlighted onto a schemes list which will be considered by colleagues in Highways Development Management if funding becomes available from any development sites in the local area that have local funding attached to the development.

We receive many requests for improvements to many locations across the County and schemes of this nature are costly to implement. We apologise that we are unable to positively action the request at this time but hope the above information confirms Buckinghamshire Councils position.
