Uneven Road Surface and Excessive Noise/Vibrations on Bridge (in the direction of Lower Road). There is a significant and uneven bump on the road surface where it crosses the bridge. This bump is particularly pronounced and causes a very loud noise when vehicles—especially large lorries, HS2 construction vehicles, and heavy trucks—drive over it. The noise is disruptive and occurs consistently throughout the day and night.
In addition to the noise, vibrations can be felt in neighbouring properties, raising concerns about potential structural impact and resident wellbeing. The road surface appears visibly uneven and potentially unsafe, which could pose a risk to both drivers and pedestrians.
Impact:
Noise pollution affecting local residents Vibrations causing disturbance and potential property damage Safety hazard due to the uneven road surface Increased wear and tear on vehicles using the road
We request an urgent inspection of the bridge and road surface, followed by appropriate remedial work to level the road and eliminate the bump. This will help reduce noise, vibrations, and improve overall safety for road users and nearby residents.
Updates
-
Not all bridges and structures in Buckinghamshire are the responsibility Highways, other bodies that own bridges and structures include:
- Network Rail: structures associated with the ‘live’railway
- National Highways: Motorways
- Canal and River Trust
- Rights of Way
We undertake annual inspections of structures on the Highway that we are responsible for, including special inspections if needed (e.g., collision damage), we also carry out regular maintenance, along with strengthening works to keep our bridges and structures safe and operational, with a minimum of disruption.
The structures team will carry out an assessment of the bridge and if is our responsibility we will arrange for a site inspection and raise an order to carry out any works required.
If the bridge is not the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Highways we will forward this report to the relevant organisation.
