Dear colleagues you will be aware of the flooding that took place in Meadway in 2024. I’d like you to notice the debris in the river/stream adjacent to the London Road bridge and would you be kind enough to remove it in case we have a heavy downpour and a rear occurrence of the flooding in instance which affected residence?

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council 3 days, 6 hours, 39 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 7702761.

Dear colleagues I would like to report debris in the stream bed adjacent to the London Road Bridge which is blocking the water flow. You will be aware of the flooding instance in 2024. Which affected my constituents I would kindly ask that you move swiftly to remove the debris in the stream visible from the London Road Bridge as this is restricting a possible flow of the water in height rainfall and could result in additional risk to my constituents I hope you can kindly remove this as you are the riparian owner on both sides and the highway of land in adjacent to this debris and have responsibility it could be suggested for the maintenance of this area of water course. I look forward to your acknowledgement of the issue visible in the photograph and your prompt action thereafter. Kind regards Robin.stuchbury@Buckinghamshire.gov.uk

Updates

  • We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. As a general rule ditches along the side of the road are the responsibility of whoever owns the land on which they are situated, they should maintain and keep the ditch capable of carrying water away from the road.

The Highway Officer will carry out an inspection within 10 days and if it is the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Council and work is required, we will raise and order and have the work done.

If the responsibility is with the landowner, we will not use taxpayers money to carry out the work, we will write to the land owner and request they carry out the necessary work on their land.
