Outside the property of 99 Aylesbury Road.

Reported via mobile in the Blocked drain category anonymously at 12:59, Tuesday 10 June 2025

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7688269.

The road drains that connects to Hyde street has been crushed. This collects all the road water from the start of (Shell garage), Aylesbury Road (going back towards Aylesbury). The drains are all clogged up from the petrol station, to no.99. When it rains, the rainwater ends up flowing into the path ( has nowhere to drain off, there blocked), then collects at the end where Hyde Street path was installed, then fills my driveway up. Two foot away from my front door and 50-75mm deep puddle. This spans the width of my driveway. This wasn't helped, by the Council putting the raised path for Hyde Street, with backfill to my property. Rainwater from the road and path fill my driveway. I expressed my concerns to your workman, but was ignored. I have repeatedly ask for the road to be repaired over the last ten years, but no action taken. Unfortunately I will have to provide you with an invoice for the retrospective work.

Updates

  • This has been passed to the Highway Officer to investigate.

We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. Even when a gully is clean and well maintained it will only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area.

The Highway Officer is only able to inspect the drain when the water has cleared away, this will be done within 10 days and if required, an order will be raised to clear the drain.

  • Update

The Highway Officer has carried out an inspection and has identified that there is no immediate safety issue, even when a gully is clean and well maintained it will only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area, this generally clears away over a matter of hours.

It is not financially viable for us to action all non-safety issues in isolation, these non-safety issues are added to a package of works for the area. In addition, all our roads are subject to Safety Inspections, and this includes identifying drainage issues, we also have a gully clearance programme where we inspect and clear all 85,000 Buckinghamshire owned gully’s annually.

If your property is in danger of flooding please refer to the flooding information and guidance on the Buckinghamshire website
