Dangerous excessive growth by side of road

Reported via mobile in the Weed problem on the highway category anonymously at 20:11, Wednesday 28 May 2025

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7630198.

I reported dangerous weeds, tree sprouts and grass growth on the verges on Wellesley Avenue a few days ago. It’s a hazard to residents because people in wheelchairs or with pushchairs may be forced to walk on the road to avoid the narrowing path. The weeds are also more than 1 metre high and drivers can’t see round the corner when coming out of Somerset Way junction.

I am part of the village gardening team but we don’t have the resource to do this on top of all the areas we look after in the area. The council hasn’t cut the grass yet once this year and this desperately needs to be resolved. The response (as per the photo) was to give me an out of date generic grass cutting statement to say grass ‘will be cut starting in April 2024 and full details will be published nearer the time’! Not only is it more than a year out of date but the link to the grass cutting schedule doesn’t work.

Can someone please get back to me with a personalised response that warrants the situation, and let me know when this dangerous issue will be resolved. Thanks

Updates

  • A Highway Officer will carry out an inspection within the next 10 working days, some weeds due to their location may require a specialist equipment for safety reasons, if your Highway Officer is unable to clear the weeds on site, they will arrange for the specialist team carry out the work, which in some cases can take up to 28 days.
