Culvert damaged in Dorcas Lane. Water way blocked causing flooding to road. This is a follow up to an earlier submission: https://fixmystreet.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/report/7157477

Reported via desktop in the Ditch issue category by Julia Jones at 11:18, Thu 8 May 2025

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7539202.

This was reported previously: https://fixmystreet.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/ report/ 7157477. This is the only access road to a family home and a business. The culvert under the road is damaged and blocked stopping the flow of water. Some activity has taken place since initial reporting as the culvert wall has been destroyed! But the culvert remains blocked. The water levels are extremely low at the moment but it is still completely blocked. When rain returns the road will become flooded once again. The road surface is very damaged by the winter flood water. This is the only access road to a family home and an engineering business. This needs urgent repair while the water level is low before it becomes submerged again.

Updates

  • We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. As a general rule ditches along the side of the road are the responsibility of whoever owns the land on which they are situated, they should maintain and keep the ditch capable of carrying water away from the road.

The Highway Officer will carry out an inspection within 10 days and if it is the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Council and work is required, we will raise and order and have the work done.

If the responsibility is with the landowner, we will not use taxpayers money to carry out the work, we will write to the land owner and request they carry out the necessary work on their land.

  • An order has been raised to repair the issue reported, this will be a permanent repair to be carried out as soon as possible. However, there are occasions when a temporary repair is carried out for safety reasons until such time as we can mobilise resources to make the repair permanent.

To ensure the highway network remains as safe as possible we will continue to carry out our regular Highways Safety Inspections which will include this issue until such times as the permanent repair is made
