Flooding from overflowing catchpit
Reported via desktop in the Flooding on a road/footpath category anonymously at 09:58, Thursday 6 February 2025
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7094492.
During heavy rain, the catchpit in the verge at the location indicated is overwhelmed. As shown in the image, the water lifts the catchpit inspection cover and allows water to flood verge and garden. This catchpit needs measures to ensure that it does not overflow once full, perhaps by locking or fixing down the inspection cover. Contributing to this issue is the volume of water that flows down Bryants Bottom Road during heavy rain, much of which flows down from the road from Great Hampden. I suggest that much of this water could/should be diverted into ditches before it enters the village, reducing the overall volume of water flowing through the village and protecting all properties.

If the flooding is caused by a water leak we will report it to the relevant water company, who are responsible for water leaks.
There are occasions when flash flooding overloads the drain/gully, even when a drain/gully is clean and well maintained it can only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area, this generally clears away over a matter of hours.
The Highway Officer is only able to inspect the drain when the water has cleared away, this will be done within 10 days and if required, an order will be raised to clear the drain.
