Outside Westview in Chapel Lane. Immediately outside the brown gates and the grass verge where the footpath is

Reported via desktop in the Flooding on a road/footpath category anonymously at 12:31, Tuesday 28 January 2025

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7045836.

Ever since work was down to cure a water leakage problem further down in Chapel Lane, the area outside Westview and the public footpath behind the grass verge keeps flooding whenever it rains. Water then flows down Chapel lane as a result. The water is not coming from a drain but comes up through the ground (the grass verge between Westview abd the Vicarage). There could be a broken drain, or tree routes in the system or something else wrong. Someone needs to take a look as it gets very slippery causing accidents. Someone slipped on the soaked grass a few weeks ago whilst walking a dog so the waterlogged verge can be dangerous. The problem has existed for about 10 months - There was never a problem here in the past 40 years that I've lived at Westview.

Updates

  • If the flooding is caused by a water leak we will report it to the relevant water company, who are responsible for water leaks.

There are occasions when flash flooding overloads the drain/gully, even when a drain/gully is clean and well maintained it can only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area, this generally clears away over a matter of hours.

The Highway Officer is only able to inspect the drain when the water has cleared away, this will be done within 10 days and if required, an order will be raised to clear the drain.
