Manhole cover and surrounding road surface broken
Reported via mobile in the Manhole cover broken/missing category anonymously at 21:00, Sat 9 November 2024
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6713490.
The manhole cover is loose and the broken surrounding road surface literally lifts as vehicles drive over it. The manhole cover as it tips from one side to the other is extremely loud, louder than the sound of gunshots!! Especially in the evening and at night. The constant noise during the day and evening interrupts everything, conversations, meal times, can't hear the TV, kids can't sleep, we all get woken constantly every night. I'm at my wits end with the extreme loud noise. The other broken cover on the road was fixed over a week ago, and this one was left. It is now affecting our mental health and causing anxiety. The broken road is so unstable around the lifting manhole cover that it is inevitable that it is going to either collapse or lift higher and cause a catastrophic accident.
Updates
-
Almost all manhole covers have some form of identification on them, and it is likely that the manhole cover is owned by a utility company, who are legally responsible for maintaining it.
This report has been passed to the Highway Officer, who will carry out an inspection within the next 10 working days and if it is found to be the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Highways we will take the appropriate action. If, however, it is found to be the responsibility of the utility company we will report the issue to them, but please note we have no control regarding how long it will take to be fixed by the utility company.
