Gulley Maintenance required
Reported via desktop in the Bridges category anonymously at 16:07, Fri 11 October 2024
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council 3 days, 2 hours, 46 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 6604457.
This area flooded on September 23rd.
The Section 19 report from July 2022 made numerous recommendations to VBuckighamshire council that do not appear to have been followed to prevent further flooding in this area. Specifically: - Increase frequency of highway gully maintenance - Further investigation into gulley network - Culvert maintenance - The stream bed at Lower End underneath the bridge needs to be cleared so that the bed is lower particularly on one side where the channel is shallow.
Clearly activities previously undertaken are insufficient

We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. As a general rule ditches along the side of the road are the responsibility of whoever owns the land on which they are situated, they should maintain and keep the ditch capable of carrying water away from the road.
The Highway Officer will carry out an inspection within 10 days and if it is the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Council and work is required, we will raise and order and have the work done.
If the responsibility is with the landowner, we will not use taxpayers money to carry out the work, we will write to the land owner and request they carry out the necessary work on their land.

Not all bridges and structures in Buckinghamshire are the responsibility Highways, other bodies that own bridges and structures include:
- Network Rail: structures associated with the ‘live’railway
- National Highways: Motorways
- Canal and River Trust
- Rights of Way
We undertake annual inspections of structures on the Highway that we are responsible for, including special inspections if needed (e.g., collision damage), we also carry out regular maintenance, along with strengthening works to keep our bridges and structures safe and operational, with a minimum of disruption.
The structures team will carry out an assessment of the bridge and if is our responsibility we will arrange for a site inspection and raise an order to carry out any works required.
If the bridge is not the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Highways we will forward this report to the relevant organisation.
