This has been passed to the Highway Officer to investigate.
We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. Even when a gully is clean and well maintained it will only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area.
The Highway Officer is only able to inspect the drain when the water has cleared away, this will be done within 10 days and if required, an order will be raised to clear the drain.

Update
Even when a gully is clean and well maintained it will only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area, this generally clears away over a matter of hours.
If the water has not cleared within 24 hours please call us on 0300 131 6000, our team will log this as an emergency, out of hours you will be redirected the out of hours emergency team.
Our priority during flash flooding is to protect the public who are using the highway, we will only respond to requests to provide sandbags in extreme emergencies to specific locations, please note we have no statutory duty to provide them.
You can buy sandbags from most DIY stores; however, you should be aware.
• They are heavy and can therefore be difficult to handle.
• They retain sewage when they come into contact with floodwater.
• The bag material used is biodegradable and will disintegrate if left in contact with water for long periods of time.
• It is your responsibility to ensure they are removed when no longer needed. The National Flood Forum recommends you use flood resistant products to help prevent water from entering the property.
Further information can be found on our Website regarding flooding issues and who to contact in the event your business or property is flooded
