Cycle path crossing of Wendover Rd, NW of A413 roundabout
Reported via desktop in the Cyclepath category by Clive Cohen at 12:22, Thursday 5 September 2024
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6439384.
The cyclepath crossing of the Wendover Road (after World Rd) just before the big roundabout to the A413, is very close to fast traffic coming from the roundabout. There is no island in the middle of the road between the 2 lanes of the Wendover Road for cyclists to land on as a 'safe haven' or indeed no traffic-light control for pedestrians or cyclists.
This is a very risky crossing at the best of times let alone in rush hour. As such it deters cyclists from using the cycle path or cycling to school. Surely an outcome to be promoted.
As context I am a Bikeability Instructor. Last week I was testing the ride to John Coilet School Wendover with 2 Yr8 pupils whom live in Elm Farm and plan to cycle to school. I think the boys are best advised to avoid this crossing, hence my suggestion they cross the Wendover Rd before the Weston Turville roundabout. This unfortunatley involves using some non cycle path of the east side of the Wendover Rd.
