Missing manhole cover

Reported via mobile in the Manhole cover broken/missing category anonymously at 13:15, Saturday 3 August 2024

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6311392.

The manhole cover directly out front of the Vauxhall garage on London Road is missing. I don’t know how long for as I haven’t walked past recently.

I tried to call but your offices are closed.

Very urgent as it’s a health and safety hazard. Its a busy road and I was walking with my 16 month old in his pushchair, fell into it, rolled my ankle, and had to catch the pushchair before it fell back completely because my son would have smacked his head on the cement.

It’s a fairly busy walkway so I wouldn’t be surprised if you get more reports.

Updates

  • Almost all manhole covers have some form of identification on them, and it is likely that the manhole cover is owned by a utility company, who are legally responsible for maintaining it.

This report has been passed to the Highway Officer, who will carry out an inspection within the next 10 working days and if it is found to be the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Highways we will take the appropriate action. If, however, it is found to be the responsibility of the utility company we will report the issue to them, but please note we have no control regarding how long it will take to be fixed by the utility company.
