Buckingham Drive, road name sign obscured

Reported via desktop in the Street nameplates category by David Morris at 09:48, Friday 2 August 2024

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6306665.

The "Buckingham Drive" road name plate is covered by tree foliage. Unable to be read street sign. Looking at the amount of growth, I'd say it has been like this for several years. The tree looks like it is planted in the garden of number 31 Gayhurst Road and spread over the wall into the council owned public footpath.

Updates

  • This has been passed to the Highway Officer to assess, they will carry out an inspection within the next 10 working days.

If a replacement is required, we will order the new street name plate and instruct our contractors to carry out the work, it is not economically viable for us to order and replace individual street name plates in isolation, we package togethers works orders and carry out the work by area this means that in some cases works can take up to 12 weeks, but please be assured once you have reported an issue with a street name plate we will attend and resolve as soon as we can.

There may also be occasions when the issue reported will not be repaired as it has been classified as a minor defect and does not pose any risk to either the safety or the integrity of the highway, these are called minimum recording levels as specified in our Highways Safety Inspection Policy in these cases no action will be taken.

The process for naming a new street remains unchanged, requests from developers should be to email streetnaming@buckinghamshire.gov.uk.

  • Update

We have investigated the issue reported and found that it is on private land, we cannot use public money to resolve issues on private land, we can only use the power we do have under Section 154 (1) of the Highways Act 1980, to advise the owner/occupier of adjoining land they are required to carry out work on their land so as to remove the cause or likelihood of danger, obstruction or interference to the users of the Highway (footpath).

In most cases the work is carried out very quickly by the owner/occupier, but in some instances this can be a lengthier process but be assured we will follow due process to ensure the work is carried out.

    State changed to: Closed
