Outside Almshouses Clifden Road

Reported via mobile in the Manhole cover broken/missing category anonymously at 09:55, Sat 20 April 2024

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5877394.

You are currently repairing the road (Ickford Road 500 yards away) will you be repairing this drain at the same time? If not, why not? It is causing residents a lot of stress having to listen to it clanking 24/7!!!!

Updates

  • Almost all manhole covers have some form of identification on them, and it is likely that the manhole cover is owned by a utility company, who are legally responsible for maintaining it.

This report has been passed to the Highway Officer, who will carry out an inspection within the next 10 working days and if it is found to be the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Highways we will take the appropriate action. If, however, it is found to be the responsibility of the utility company we will report the issue to them, but please note we have no control regarding how long it will take to be fixed by the utility company.

We try to carry out larger patching where possible however, the reason we sometimes do not fix all road defeats in the same location at the same time, is because some defects are classified as urgent and are carried out as a higher priority for the safety of road users. We unfortunately have limited finance and resource so we must balance these constraints when managing the Highway network. Some repairs also require different machinery that is not always available, we can assure you however we plan the works on the network as efficiently as possible with the constraints we have to work with.

We follow a strict Highway Inspection Policy on all Buckinghamshire roads, and we will not ignore any reports from the public, however, we do have to prioritise our repairs based on safety, and it is not practical to fix all the problems that are reported to us.

Based upon the inspectors’ assessment of a defect, whether this is picked up as part of our Highway Inspection or reported by the public it will be allocated a response time for repair or make safe, which may be 24 hours or part of a planned future maintenance program.
