Broken manhole cover on footpath

Reported via desktop in the Manhole cover broken/missing category by full name at 22:49, Mon 15 April 2024

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5857802.

Already reported a month ago ref: 5652361 but nothing done to repair it. You have a duty of care to protect people from falling down holes even if its not your job to fix it. Who else uses manholes labelled Traffic signals? Also thought it would be easy to put a few parking tickets on vehicles parking there damaging that almost certainly broke the manhole in the first place and that are currently damaging the grass. Sorry there is no grass because they have been there so long and nothing has been done. You put bollards in so many places to stop parking why not here.

Updates

  • Almost all manhole covers have some form of identification on them, and it is likely that the manhole cover is owned by a utility company, who are legally responsible for maintaining it.

This report has been passed to the Highway Officer, who will carry out an inspection within the next 10 working days and if it is found to be the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Highways we will take the appropriate action. If, however, it is found to be the responsibility of the utility company we will report the issue to them, but please note we have no control regarding how long it will take to be fixed by the utility company.
