Not fixed 11 months after promise by Dave Roberts

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5813549.

In April 2023 a response from Dave Roberts, Head of Highways, was given to a Complaint handed by the Complaints team.

Dave's submission was "I sent a maintenance crew to attend to this, we have made this safe and it is now on a program of works to be plumbed and concreted as soon as possible."

11 MONTHS after I was told this, you can see that the lamposts, which is leaning more dangerously than than every has NOT been concreted.

As the other photo shows, your contractors undertaking road surface replacement refused to drill out the concrete kerb near this lamposts, saying that they were concerned that the vibrations could cause the leaning lamp to topple over onto their vehicle and staff. Rightly so. So they had to do a bodge, which they didn't want to do, as they said it could lead to a failed road surface in a year or so.

So your negligence on not repairing this lamppost will have other knock on effects.

If it's not permanently repaired by the end of April 2024 the I will raise it this with Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman and raising it with my local Councillor.

  • The Street Lighting Team aim to repair all faulty lighting within 20 working days, however, there may be some circumstances that this time for repairs is be extended. For example, if it is an electricity supply fault, this will be passed to the local electricity network operator to attend and rectify as we cannot work on their network, in these cases we will update you to let you know it is an electricity supply fault.

    We are experiencing a system issue at the moment which is stopping us from providing updates on lighting issues, please be assured all street lighting defects are being inspected and fixed but until we have resolved the updates issue you may see the light fixed without receiving any updates.

    We know that faulty lighting is very important to our residents, and we take all reported issues very seriously. In the latter part of 2023, we recruited night scouts to review all of the 40,000 lighting assets we maintain in Buckinghamshire, the information from this review and all customer reported issues are now being addressed and will be resolved as soon as possible.

  • Update.

    We have attended the site and have carried out a full assessment on the lighting column. 95% of lighting reports are repaired on the first visit, as they are generally more minor issues such as replacing the bulb. Unfortunately, there are occasions when further work is required:

    Full column replacement, Lantern / bracket replacements and/or Specialist parts
    It is not economically viable for us to order and replace these items in isolation, we package works together and schedule them in by area. This means that in some cases the work will not be completed for up to 90 working days and we apologise for this, but it is essential to keep costs low and utilise the workforce in the most cost effective way.

    Vegetation clearance
    We will always try to remove vegetation which is blocking a street light or traffic signal on the first visit, but there are occasions when it is not safe for our operators to do so and specialist equipment such as a cherry picker and/or traffic management is required. This must all be scheduled in to ensure we are not disrupting other roads in the area; we aim to carry out this work within 90 working days.

    Further electrical investigation required
    If the initial inspection highlights there is an electricity supply fault, this will be passed to the local electricity network operator to attend and rectify, as we cannot work on their network, we are bound in these cases by the electricity supplier service levels, which tend to be again 90 working days.

    Please be assured we do have the job in hand, it just might take a little longer than normal, but we will update you when the work has been completed.
