Church Lane Wendover adjacent to school 'bushcraft' area.

Reported via desktop in the Ditch issue category anonymously at 15:32, Thu 4 April 2024

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5807397.

The brook alongside Church Lane is fed from a spring which issues at the junction of Hale Road and Church Lane both adjacent to, and opposite, Wellhead Cottage.

Approximately 75yds from its origin the brook is culverted/piped beneath Church Lane to emerge behind the houses in Hale Road eventually feeding the canal in Wharf Road.

This watercourse has been repeatedly dammed by bricks, sandbags and debris (various) over several weeks to the extent that debris is blocking the entrance to the culvert/pipe.and water no longer flows.

The water table is high and will no doubt become higher in coming weeks and the problem will only become worse.

Please can some remedial action be taken?

Updates

  • We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. As a general rule ditches along the side of the road are the responsibility of whoever owns the land on which they are situated, they should maintain and keep the ditch capable of carrying water away from the road.

The Highway Officer will carry out an inspection within 10 days and if it is the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Council and work is required, we will raise and order and have the work done.

If the responsibility is with the landowner, we will not use taxpayers money to carry out the work, we will write to the land owner and request they carry out the necessary work on their land.
