Blocked ditch outside Chalkshire Farmhouse

Reported via desktop in the Ditch issue category anonymously at 15:51, Wednesday 13 March 2024

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5708091.

The ditch to the left of Chalkshire Farmhouse is, once again, clogged with dirt and debris causing the ditch to overflow in heavy rain and flood the road. The ditch has been like this since the middle of 2023 and urgently needs to be cleared.

Updates

  • We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. As a general rule ditches along the side of the road are the responsibility of whoever owns the land on which they are situated, they should maintain and keep the ditch capable of carrying water away from the road.

The Highway Officer will carry out an inspection within 10 days and if it is the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Council and work is required, we will raise and order and have the work done.

If the responsibility is with the landowner, we will not use taxpayers money to carry out the work, we will write to the land owner and request they carry out the necessary work on their land.
