Roadside drainage Aylesbury end of Drayton Beauchamp

Reported via mobile in the Ditch issue category anonymously at 11:28, Wednesday 28 February 2024

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5643523.

The roadside drain has not been cleared for at least 8 year. This leads to flooding of the road and destruction of the verges throughout every winter.

Updates

  • We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. As a general rule ditches along the side of the road are the responsibility of whoever owns the land on which they are situated, they should maintain and keep the ditch capable of carrying water away from the road.

The Highway Officer will carry out an inspection within 10 days and if it is the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Council and work is required, we will raise and order and have the work done.

If the responsibility is with the landowner, we will not use taxpayers money to carry out the work, we will write to the land owner and request they carry out the necessary work on their land.

  • Update

We have fully investigated your issue and found that the area/issue is not the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Council.

Unfortunately, we do not hold landownership details, an option for you would be to contact Land Registry, who will be able to provide you with the ownership/responsibility details so that you can progress you enquiry/issue further.

Apologies that we could not be more helpful, I am sure you can understand that we must only use public money to repair/resolve issues we are responsible for.
