Brill Road after l/hand bend, before first field entrance

Reported via mobile in the Blocked drain category by John Mole at 12:20, Wed 21 February 2024

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5609408.

Blocked drain has still not been cleared out. It is on left hand side of carriageway, just passed the l/hand bend and just before the first field entrance. Along with drains reported in FixMyStreet 5609300 and 5609330 , the three drains take water from the Brill Road and put into the ditch. By leaving them blocked Brill Road becomes a river, this then careers into the Thame Road near the junction with Brill Road and can cause serious flooding.

Updates

  • This has been passed to the Highway Officer to investigate.

We know that an important part of any road network is the drainage system which is designed to carry water away from the road surface. Even when a gully is clean and well maintained it will only cope with a certain volume of water at one time, a sudden and heavy downpour can still cause flooding especially if the road is in a low lying area.

The Highway Officer is only able to inspect the drain when the water has cleared away, this will be done within 10 days and if required, an order will be raised to clear the drain.

  • An order has been raised to repair the issue reported, this will be a permanent repair to be carried out as soon as possible. However, there are occasions when a temporary repair is carried out for safety reasons until such time as we can mobilise resources to make the repair permanent.

To ensure the highway network remains as safe as possible we will continue to carry out our regular Highways Safety Inspections which will include this issue until such times as the permanent repair is made
