I am now writing this for my own record that once again I am informing you of safety concerns for this road as I am taking further action. I am informing you that this road is a safety concern and that I witness vehicles mounting the pavement for some distance to avoid the potholes. These potholes have been reported for years and for a time were poorly patched up and now they aren’t even patched up anymore. There have been white circles drawn around some of them months ago and still they are left unfilled. This roads surface was deemed as poor 2-3 years ago and planned works were booked in and the sign put up of the road closure. Works were cancelled and since then other road surfaces in Chesham have been completed instead. Doesn’t make sense? Speaking to other neighbours they have since found out their car tracking is out, as is mine. Do you not think this is due to going over potholes constantly each day? I am now going to investigate which other vehicles have issues down our road. I have informed you of the pavement surface sinking once you pass the turning for Appletree Walk and that there is exposed manhole cover edges on the pavement where the pavement has sunk around it and still it is ignored. Just a reply saying in the future works are planned, never a date though. This is 2-3 years late. The pavements and road surface down this road have failed and are all trip hazards. I have reported enough times, as have others. No need to reply as, as I have said this log is now for my records that I have informed you once again of the issues.
This has been passed to the local area technician to investigate the enquiry/issue regarding a pothole/road surface.
During winter months we receive a very high number of reports regarding potholes or a poor road surface, it's easy to assume that potholes are formed due to roads being poorly maintained but that is not usually the case. There are many factors that can cause potholes, particularly during the winter months when water seeps in through cracks in the road surface, collecting underneath and when the water freezes, it expands and creates cracks in the road surface.
Our priority is always the safety of road users, so in some cases during busy periods a permanent repair is not always possible immediately. However, temporary repairs are a way to ensure the area is safe until such times as we can return to make a permanent repair.
