The footway between The Warren and Joiners Lane is again becoming unusable
Reported via mobile in the Footpath / pavement problem category by John Osbaldeston at 14:56, Monday 29 May 2023
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4607296.
Last year I was about to put an action item on this site about the lack of maintenance of this walkway, however I noticed that it had already been reported by a parent who was unable to get their child safely along it and nothing had been done since, consequently, I raised a formal complaint directly with the Council. In early February 2023 the walkway finally got properly cleared and we were able to see the full width of the underlying tarmac for the first time in years. This walkway has not been cut since and much of the path is now once again being overhung by grass, weeds and more importantly stinging nettles, which is making it impassable to some users. This is the only pedestrian exit to the village, which is adjacent to a well used road which has a 60mph speed limit and should be available to all users including residents, visitors and the many young people who utilise the nearby scout camp along Denham Lane. Please action this as soon as possible before the situation gets worse.
CONSTRUCTIVE SUGGESTION: It is obvious that this footway is never inspected or maintained without prompting from residents or others interested parties which means the Council is flagrantly failing in its duty of care to all users.
As I understand it the Parish Council is responsible for grass cutting in Chalfont St. Peter village and they do this regularly, but it seems only up to the 30mph signs. Surely it would make absolute sense once the immediate needed cut is completed that you ask the Parish Council to extend their current area of cutting a further 60m down Denham Lane on a regular basis and that would resolve the problem for all.
