Colne Orchard

Reported via mobile in the Hedge problem category anonymously at 22:59, Saturday 27 May 2023

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4603773.

The trees need cutting on the green of Colne Orchard as they are currently blocking visibility of the oncoming traffic. It nearly caused an accident today as the oncoming vehicle was not able to see me. This is extremely dangerous and needs to be cut before any incidents occur.

Updates

  • An officer will carry out an inspection within the next 10 working days and arrange to have the issue resolved as soon as possible after that.

Posted by Buckinghamshire Council at 22:59, Saturday 27 May 2023

  • It is an offence under Section 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981 to intentionally take, damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird while it is in use or being built, or to intentionally kill, injure or take chicks or adults, or intentionally take or destroy any eggs.

As a general rule we avoid hedge cutting during the main breeding season for nesting birds, which usually runs throughout March to August each year. We follow the law and where possible the guidance provided by The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. However, there may be cases when we cannot avoid disturbing a nest if it is obstructing the public highway, for example a nest in a tree branch overhanging the carriageway, in these rare cases we would apply to Natural England for a licence to carry out the work under the grounds of health and safety.
