Failed road surface along Bar Lane Longwick

Reported via iOS in the Road surface category anonymously at 21:16, Sat 27 May 2023

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4603646.

I have taken 15 different photographs showing the extent of the failed road surface along the 1 Km length of Bar Lane Longwick caused but a major increase of the volume of traffic using the lane as a Rat Run, exacerbated by HGVs which exceed the 7.5 Tonnes limit using the lane to clear rubble from the new Owlswick building development. The edge of the lane in some areas drops 6 inches. The potholes are increasing in both depth and area. It is requested that remedial, long term action is taken to rectify the issues raised.

Updates

  • This has been passed to the local area technician to investigate the enquiry/issue regarding a pothole/road surface.

During winter months we receive a very high number of reports regarding potholes or a poor road surface, it's easy to assume that potholes are formed due to roads being poorly maintained but that is not usually the case. There are many factors that can cause potholes, particularly during the winter months when water seeps in through cracks in the road surface, collecting underneath and when the water freezes, it expands and creates cracks in the road surface.

Our priority is always the safety of road users, so in some cases during busy periods a permanent repair is not always possible immediately. However, temporary repairs are a way to ensure the area is safe until such times as we can return to make a permanent repair.

  • Update

We can confirm that this section of road is currently on our Capital Maintenance list for extensive resurfacing which we hope will be carried out within the next 6-12 months. We always try were possible to adhere to the dates given, but unfortunately there are occasions when we have to delay the work due to unforeseen circumstances.

In the meantime please be assured, we will continue to monitor the area in line with our Highways Safety Inspection Policy.
