Extremely deep pot hole on Treadaway Hill (just after m40 flyover Bridge) heading towards Flackwell Heath

This pothole is like hitting a solid kerb in the middle of the road. Very deep. I’ve hit this pothole on motorcycle and it has damaged and buckled both wheels on my motorcycle. It is extremely deep indeed and is dangerous enough to really hurt 2 wheeled road users. Previous reports of this pothole say it’s been dealt with but it is still there.

  • This has been passed to the local area technician to investigate the enquiry/issue regarding a pothole/road surface.

    During winter months we receive a very high number of reports regarding potholes or a poor road surface, it's easy to assume that potholes are formed due to roads being poorly maintained but that is not usually the case. There are many factors that can cause potholes, particularly during the winter months when water seeps in through cracks in the road surface, collecting underneath and when the water freezes, it expands and creates cracks in the road surface.

    Our priority is always the safety of road users, so in some cases during busy periods a permanent repair is not always possible immediately. However, temporary repairs are a way to ensure the area is safe until such times as we can return to make a permanent repair.

  • An order has been raised to repair the defect reported, this will be a permanent repair to be carried out within the next 16 weeks. To ensure the highway network remains as safe as possible we will be carrying out temporary repairs on dangerous issues to make them safe, please be assured we will revisit these temporary repairs and make them permanent at a later date, we will also continue to carry out our regular Highways Safety Inspection Policy and should we find any issues we will apply the same rule a temporary repair until such time as we can make it permanent.
