High Street and The Green Great Horwood
Reported via desktop in the Pothole category by Martin Scott at 22:32, Mon 27 March 2023
Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4366392.
As occasional visitors to the area, we are appalled at the condition of the roads generally, and in particular the Village of Great Horwood. It is noted that other people have reported the holes in the High street since January, and it is unacceptable for you to leave the road in this condition. Presumably the 'abandoned Mercedes with a flat tyre is a victim of the pothole in the first photo shown - taken on 18th March. If the road is in this condition when we next visit, I shall be contacting the local Police to see whether they can prosecute Council officials for not upkeeping the road as obliged in the Road Traffic act, and to see if they will close the road. I don't ride a motorcycle, but can appreciate a motorcyclist could be killed by the pothole, or indeed by having to slalom around the numerous potholes or killed by motorists being forced to do likewise. By the way, the method of reporting as an emergency appears to be a method to avoid persons reporting by email, and no doubt involves long waiting times on the phone. This is also unacceptable, and it should be possible to report a dangerous hole by email.

This has been passed to the local area technician to investigate the enquiry/issue regarding a pothole/road surface.
During winter months we receive a very high number of reports regarding potholes or a poor road surface, it's easy to assume that potholes are formed due to roads being poorly maintained but that is not usually the case. There are many factors that can cause potholes, particularly during the winter months when water seeps in through cracks in the road surface, collecting underneath and when the water freezes, it expands and forces up the road surface in through cracks in the road surface.
Our priority is always the safety of road users, so in some cases during busy periods a permanent repair is not always possible immediately. However, temporary repairs are a way to ensure the area is safe until such times as we can return to make a permanent repair.
